Friendship dilemmas: 3 perplexing problems solved
Should you comment on a friend’s weight? Does everyone really need a best friend? And what to do if alcohol is ruining a friendship…
We are endlessly inspired by the wonderful community of women that’s grown up around our podcast Postcards from Midlife, in particular our private Facebook Group, where 15,000 women post their stories, everyday wins, brain fog bloopers, midlife problems and predicaments and share so much great advice and support to each other. As professional journalists we’ve interviewed all the leading experts on every topic you can think of, and we’ve both been around the block as we’re now pushing 60 (in a year or two), so we like to think of ourselves as older, wiser women. So for this week’s newsletter, we have donned our agony aunt hats to offer some insights and understanding for three real life problems, on a subject close to our hearts - friendship. And if you’d like to like to join the group, just click on the link above and we’ll see you there!
Dear Lorraine & Trish,
I’m a bit bewildered: I’ve lost two stone (11st 5lbs to 9st 5lbs at 5ft 2”) since last summer (from a size 14 to a size 10) and absolutely none of my friends have commented. It’s obvious I’ve lost weight so I really can’t understand why no one has said anything. I’m feeling quite down about it in all honestly. Although I’m not losing weight for anyone other than myself, it’d be nice to get some recognition. Can you shed any light on why my friends aren’t commenting?
