Loves & Links to fire up your autumn
Cosy comfort food, autumnal tablescaping, crafting inspiration & a rainy Sunday afternoon film to watch with all the family
I’m buying: Like a magpie, I’ve always been drawn to shiny things and not just for party wear. In my twenties I had a pair of spray on (imagine!) silver leather trousers from Joseph, which I saved up for and wore with some black Patrick Cox black loafers (remember those?). In my thirties I pounced on a silver lurex Stella McCartney blouse in a sale and wore it so much over the next five years it actually wore out on the shoulder seam. Meanwhile, a pair of silver Jimmy Choo kitten heels that were a staple of my office wardrobe during my time as a glossy editor are safely stowed away in their original box. The tissue paper inserts are still intact, and the leather soles overlaid with rubber ones for longevity (a tip from a fashion director who told me she always headed straight for her local Timpsons as soon as she bought a pair of leather-soled shoes as they wear out so quickly and can make the shoe lose their shape). This season, I’m tempted by Marks & Sparks Metallic Wide Leg Jeans, £49.50 - I like the high waist and wide legs (my spray on days are long gone) and paired with some light coloured cashmere will look really luxey. They’re actually cotton with a shimmering metallic finish even though they look more like leather in this picture, and are available in gold too if that’s more your thing. Monsoon has a great ‘pleather’ skirt, officially called the Pippa Faux Leather Skirt, £69, which looks tres chic with black leather boots. And how cute are these Vagabond Mary Janes, £120? I think they’d look great with blue jeans with a frayed hem (thank goodness that’s a trend as jeans are always too long for me and instead of paying to get them taken up I can just snip away at them with a pair of scissors).
